DO YOU HAVE A HORSE OR PONY SUITABLE FOR THE RDA?

WANTED ON LONG TERM LOAN / PURCHASE

Ref #: 249896
  • If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below
  • If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below

One of the main issues that RDA groups face is finding an Equine to suit the needs of the participants in their group.

We are regularly contacted with offers of Equines that are ‘the ideal RDA horse or pony’ when actually what is ideal for one group may not be for the next. We are trying to move away from the stereotypical view that RDA Equines are elderly and somewhat static, our horses and ponies need to be fit, healthy and athletic to cope with the lifestyle in an RDA group.

They can range from smaller, forward going ponies to weight carrying cobs and can take part in a range of disciplines from Riding to Carriage Driving, Vaulting to Show Jumping and Endurance.

If you contact an RDA Group about your Equine please be prepared to fill in an Equine Initial Interest Form which will ask you many questions about your horses’ temperament, health history, experience and lifestyle. Many groups will prefer to have an equine on trial to make sure they are suitable for the job.

For long term loans and purchases they will also be required to have a Pre-Purchase Examination.

If you think your equine has what it takes, please contact one of the groups below.

Gerry is a type hard to come by , a very good stamp with a lovely front , nice paces and good limbs.

He is kind natured , good to bath, brush etc and loves attention . Used to a busy yard where it doesn't phase him.

We feel he is ready for someone to put their own stamp on him and give him a job to do . Gerry would be a lovely ridden cob or equally a nice driving cob .

Serious enquiries only as this has been a hard decision.

Approx 15.3hh, bay roan, Connemara x Irish Draught gelding with full green passport.

Wolfie was lightly started last year and has been back in work since April 25, taking everything in his stride. Has always been confident to hack alone and in company and had no issues with any traffic met including tractors, cyclists, school buses and milk lorries.

Stands politely at the mounting block and is good with gates.

He has recently started jumping, proving to be very bold over fillers, planks and water trays. He has been cross country schooling and again was unfazed, happily popping hedges, barrels, steps, ditches, water etc without a lead.

A pet at home being super chilled and loves a groom and fuss. Gets on with field mates and can be stabled or out 24/7.

Fully vaccinated, loads, travels and stands happily when he’s out and about and has been polite to handle in all situations. Wolfie is barefoot but excellent with the farrier.

Very smart and always willing but due to young age will need a knowledgeable and experienced home as he is still learning.

Sad sale as owner will be undergoing two planned surgeries over the next few months and needs to recuperate.

Some tack available – newly bought this year and recently checked.

Regularly seen by physio and has had wolf tooth removed and regular dental checks. Passed vetting on purchase and is open to any vetting.

  • So much potential for showing, dressage or to just be the coolest leisure horse around!

Very sad to announce that Basil must find a new owner, through no fault of his own.

We adore him and would absolutely love to see him give someone as much fun as he has given us, a good long term home is our priority.

Basil does not insist on being sporty, he’d love a hacking in company life really, and wow is he comfy!

8 year old, apx 19.1+ brown dappled shire gelding.

Before you get too excited, he is over a tonne of ADHD, and in fear of invisible things on a daily basis - so can be a handful to manage and needs consistent attention to contain the beast whilst getting him into a routine, he’s not dangerous he just lives on high alert when not in his bedroom or under saddle, but in reality he’s a wimp and actually just wants you to hold his hand while whatever scares him passes or you pass it.

That being said, he has matured enormously since coming to me last year and rides through most of his issues easily. He’s at his spookiest at home, rarely does he look at anything while out/shows etc

He has been to several shows including his first stay away this year at The National Shire Show. He had great results including being pulled 6th in his first HOYS qualifier in a very big and strong class to finish 9th. He has always behaved impeccably at shows and tends to need minimal working in

He will do pretty much anything you’d like, if you are capable of doing it too, he’s a team player not a leader. He genuinely is a rarity though with so much potential for showing, dressage or to just be the coolest leisure horse around!

You will be eternally entertained and in love, guaranteed.

Harry – 16.2hh Irish Draught Gelding by Fintan Himself, 6 Years Old

Imported from Ireland as a two-year-old and carefully produced by ourselves. Harry has been used as a hireling for the past two seasons, ridden by a wide variety of clients. He is a true old-fashioned Irish type – plenty of bone, a leg in each corner, and the temperament to match.

A real armchair ride with a lovely soft mouth. Never pulls. He will jump absolutely anything you point him at – timber, wire, hedges, ditches – nothing phases him. While well-established on the flat, he has primarily been used for hunting.

Harry is never silly or sharp. He is not strong and does not buck, bolt, rear or nap. A real gentleman in every way – he’s good to do in and out of the stable, hacks alone or in company, and is completely unfazed by traffic.

A mannerly, straightforward horse with a lovely temperament – truly one for the whole family.

**Does have a curb to his off hind. Had since a two year old. Hunted three seasons on it. Does not affect him in anyway and is purely cosmetic. Fully formed. Some vets do not like them. Needing the person viewing to have some common sense about it.

Stop looking, here he is! This Boy is absolutely amazing. The most handsome Gentleman ever. No need to trawl the length and breadth of Ireland, I have done it for you! You will not find better.

North Norfolk based.

He really is not to be missed. We have owned him from a weanling, we imported him from his breeder in Tipperary.

We absolutely know him inside out.

He boasts top class breeding, looks and has untapped talent. He has never been pushed, rushed or bullied. He has schooled very lightly over a small course of 90 cm show jumps and and has loose jumped 120 cm with absolute ease. With potential to go much, much further. As of yet, he has never been competed. He has been ridden by a 14 year old girl and by a 6' 3" man. He had many holidays when we were breaking him and is used to being ridden weeks apart, with no need to worry about just jumping straight on him and riding away.

He is without vice, quirks, issues or fault, no lumps, bumps or humps.

He has a temperament like no other. He is happy to hack through the heaviest of traffic on the buckle, he is excellent in vast open spaces, will ride away from others and is never any different in any situation, on his own or with any amount of others. He loves children, dogs and other animals.

He especially loves to meet the children coming out of the village school, where he stands to be petted and patted by very excited infants

Always ridden in a snaffle bit with no flash. He loads, travels and stands perfectly. He loves the beech and likes water. He never says No.

Never hot or bothered, always ears forward.

Templebready Fear Bui blood lines, which need no introduction.

Out of an Irish mare / part bred Connemara By a Class 1 Connemara Dun Stallion Anna Dooneen.

He is definitely a FEI / BSJA / BE contender. Adult/child share. Working hunter. Hunter. Pony club superstar.

Recently broken by us and Holiday Schooled by Indie Vaughan-Jones, member of the 3 * European Cup squad Event Team. (Who she called a real Dude, with a can do attitude)

Ready for his next long term home where he can be educated further to achieve his utmost potential, we would love to keep in touch and follow his career.

He will only bed sold to the very best 5* home for him!

Dylls is a striking and pretty 14.2, 6 yo perlino cob.

Has been hacked out in traffic including farm machinery since a 4 yo by a disabled rider. She has matured a lot since being bought as a 4 yo and is now too wide for her small, 4ft 8" rider, hence sadly looking for a nice new home for her.

Dylls went away for schooling with dressage in mind and although she has nice active paces and dressage/ showing potential she would need a competent rider to continue with this as she can show a small nap at present. She hasn't seen many fences but pops small up-rights and logs in the woods.

Currently ridden by a variety of riders and enjoying hacking, canter through fields and lots of bareback!

She is a sweet, loving mare and in a kind home will do well - the world is her oyster.

Must sell so open to sensible offers.

Millie

Approx 14.3/15H, 6 years old, old fashioned solid type.

Millie is a delight to have around the yard and is a laid back easy going girlie, that loves fuss and attention, will stand for hours to have a good pamper session, she’s polite and mannerly on the ground and a pleasure to handle on a daily basis.

She’s a bold and brave type naturally, hacks alone and in company including big groups and will go first or last, is a super happy girl whilst out and about exploring. She isn’t the spooky or silly type at all and will always keep you safe. Rock solid with all types of traffic and doesn’t “heat” up in big groups cantering etc, she is happy to stay in walk or trot if the horses you are with canter off ahead.

She has 3 nice paces in the school and is responsive off the leg without being speedy or sharp. Loves doing pole work and pops around a course of jumps. She’s happy to be picked up or put down where the riding is concerned and is no different if ridden everyday or left off for a few weeks.

Millie will suit a variety of riders including the less confident or less experienced, or equally someone that wants to go out and have fun without ever worrying if their horse is going to “cope” with the atmosphere or get excitable because there’s lots of other horses, or be too spooky or silly because life has taken over and they haven’t had chance to ride much, as this just isn’t Millie, she’s the same whether she is at home or away, in a big group or alone, ridden every day or ridden once a week.

No vices, loads and travels well.

Introducing ‘Ace’ - a stunning boy inside and out

15hh, 6yo , cob gelding. No lumps or bumps nor vices

Recently imported from Ireland. Shod , fit, and ready for some fun with a new owner

He is super kind and easy to do everything with. He really is very straightforward and low maintenance to own. Any member of the family can see to him. My yard girls have daily rows over him, it’s driving me mad!

Ace hacks out like a real super star. Very much an older head on young shoulders. Super bold and brave. More than happy to lead the ride. He absolutely loves hacking out whether that be along the 60mph main roads or through the woodlands , cross country fields , through the stream or through the country lanes. He really is worth his weight in gold in this sphere and undoubtedly puts my 10 year olds to shame. He’s great for nannying my much more experienced wimpy show jumper as well as being very tolerant of the breakers sitting in his lap. Artic Lorrie’s , tractors , bikes , dogs etc - none of this is a problem for Ace. Stands solidly out the mounting block

Ace has previously attended funrides and hunted over in Ireland is said to be a real star which doesn’t surprise me. He’s very much a can do cob. He’s been perfect in the open spaces , popping logs happily and being the perfect companion for taking videos of the others. Happy to go off on his own etc , not at all nappy or argumentative- a genuinely nice type that I look forward to showing people

Ace has done very little in the arena until he came to us. He’s had three nice and balanced paces but would certainly benefit from some schooling. He has a head up and forward way of going so he does require educating. That said , extremely willing, switched on and quick learner who someone could very much make into something special this summer.
He’s popping show jumps with us. Again, a tad green but really fun and willing for the job. Had a nice pop in the engine and always remains totally sane and level headed , so accepting of everything he’s asked.

Ace has done more out of the arena than in but is at the stage where you can make him into anything you’d like. I’d say he’d be too forward going for a novice however , that’s said, he has been ridden by novices previously and is very safe and tolerant. Just wouldn’t suit someone wanting a total plod , in the arena only. I’d feel comfortable putting a nervous or novice on out hacking.

I think he’s a bargain for a cob like this!!
Open to viewings / vettings / virtual viewing etc

Yet again HUMAN ERROR has set him back a million miles - he’s nervous on the ground and needs patience and understanding absolutely no harsh hands. We are not ‘pony patters’ I can assure you this is the loveliest chap ever who does genuinely need calm experiences and nothing but kindness. If you can’t give him that, please don’t bother calling

Sweet in the stable - not sharp or skittish etc. Good to bring in and out, tie up , groom , catch, tack up etc

Loads and travels well

Works sweetly in the school with a stunning uphill show ring canter - so much potential and he really enjoys working in the arena

Enjoys popping small fences in and out of the arena. Also popped many logs etc out hacking which he’s loved. Good in open spaces and bold and genuine in the busy traffi

Like many ‘heavier horses’ , they are sometimes not the best either picking up their feet. I believe this to have been the case with Liam which someone has clearly beat him for. Now he’s terrified and didn’t even like his leg being touched when I first had him. After just over a week of settling and getting to know each other , I can now pick up the front feet and touching the backs. He just needs patience , positive reinforcement, and consistency with this. Ten minutes every day and this WILL become a distant memory

Once you’re on board Liam is straight and easy to ride. Although, getting in is not always very easy. Again, something we are working on and seeing progress with each and everyday without fail. He does not buck / rear / bronk etc. Genuinely nervous and just rushes off

I tend to get on and off in the stable a few times , lots of treats and praise and then out on to the yard and repeat the process. He is also much better if you have someone to hold him. I have plenty of video footage of this

This is kind horse who is a 10k cob in there deep down.

People have let him down in the past and I’ll do my all to make sure this doesn’t happen to him again. So if you can’t give him your time and patience, just don’t bother and I will keep him for as long as it takes until I feel that right person has been found

3k bids not welcome , I’ll just keep him for that

Based in Newport south wales - I’d be more than happy to deliver him myself and see him happy in a new hom

Stable spaces is needed , that’s the only reason I’m not keeping him long term to correct these errors

This mare is going to make someone a cracking all rounder. She loves her job and just wants to please her riders.

She’s a foward safe ride. A girl that wants to crack on and have fun. Previously used in a riding school.

She’s happy to live in or out. Currently living out. On her own next to other horses. Can go out with others.

Loads well, travels well. Lives off fresh air. Cheap to keep. Super easy to get in from field walks over.

She will suit a rider who is used to a foward ride. Rather than a plod.

She has no vices but she loves her work.

She’s hacked out on the buckle with a begginer rider and they felt super safe.

She loves her jumping. Will make some one a very happy a

Great with traffic. Has been to the beach and she loved everything about it.

She also had a swim in the sea. Not a bad bone in her body.

Would make an ideal showing , all rounder home.

Types like her are few and far between!

She’s an old fashioned chunky type with plenty of bone!

Good limbs and conformation.

She’s going sweetly in the arena and is happy to hack out alone or in company. She’s a nice easy horse to handle and deal with.

Was super xc schooling proving to be brave and sensible. Stood on the box on her own ect while we took the other one away.

No novices as she’s still young and needs education but absolutely no badness.

Super smart horse with an exciting future

Betty

Lovely laid back temperament and very sweet natured.

She’s got plenty of scope over a fence and loves it to!

I think she would make the most mega fun hunt horse for the season ahead. She’s been to poles clinics and used for general hacking / fun.

Rides nicely in the arena and good in traffic ect.

She can be spooky at the silly things like a crisp packet in a bush but would ride past a tractor no problem!

She’s more of a steady type in general, is good to catch ect.
