Cobs and Heavy Horses: Allrounder

Superb 16.2hh 5yo allrounder / hunter / dressage gelding

Ref #: 413527
  • Straightforward, genuine and kind young horse
  • Has had an allround education at arena hires, shows, hunting in England and Ireland
  • Has a recent clean vet cert and clean partial set X-rays
£13,500 ONO
  • Irish Draught
  • Grey
  • Gelding

  • Straightforward, genuine and kind young horse
  • Has had an allround education at arena hires, shows, hunting in England and Ireland
  • Has a recent clean vet cert and clean partial set X-rays

Max is a beautiful, much sought after, stamp of horse. He combines bone and presence but is light on his feet and not a cob like ride!

He is a super quality 5yr old, 16.2hh ID X ISH (white book no breeding recorded) gelding. He was purchased from Ireland last Novembe. Max had done some hunting and lots of hacking in Ireland. He was then professionally produced on further in England. He has been hunting and proved sensible, careful and bold. He has attended numerous arena hires, clear round shows, and dressage shows (at intro level due to having a rather larger than life canter!) Max has always proved to have an exceptional attitude towards his education and has taken everything in his stride.

Max is working sweetly on the flat, he has a nice mouth and wants to go to the contact and work correctly. His walk and trot are super, his canter is slightly green as he is a big boy and needs to strengthen up to learn and be capable of collection! He is willing in his brain, has a lovely trainable attitude. He has been to intro dressage tests, and was fabulous in the warm up arena and in the boards.

Max is good to hack alone or in company. He is bombproof in heavy traffic/motorbikes and quads. He is a young horse, and despite how rock solid he is in traffic he still is only the age he is, so if a pheasant flies up underneath him or something jumps out he may have a bit of a spook/jump, but this is to be expected with his age.

Max is very sweet to jump, he is capable of being very good over a fence with a good technique in front, and behind. As stated previously his canter is a little green so he really would benefit from strengthening work to improve the canter and therefore jumping a course fluently in the canter. He is good over fillers, he will trot and pop or canter to a fence.

Max is good to clip, shoe, load on a trailer or 3.5 tonne lorry. He is good to travel, bath, catch. Good to pull his mane etc. he is a lovely horse to have around. He turns out alone/ in a heard / with mares or geldings.

He has no health issues, he has a clean vet cert, and set of X-rays of front feet (due to clients previous experiences with own other horse). Max is for sale through no fault of his own, due to owners change in personal circumstances. In the last couple of months he has predominantly been doing lots of hacking and fun rides and some arena hires.

Not suitable for a total novice as is a young horse.

Fitted tack available at negotiation.

  • Mellow and unflappable character

Kippagh Choice, affectionately called ‘Neville’ by our girls, is a one-in-a-million find for a family with many riders, a riding club member looking for a capable, unflappable partner, or an amateur looking for a confidence-boosting, gentle allrounder.

He is a big-bodied, weight carrier standing at 16.1h with a little more growing to do. He is a stunning blue roan 4yo Irish Draught x Cob.

We have yet to find something he is afraid of! He enjoys hacking alone or with others, has no problem around lorries, machinery, cows, traffic, or busy arenas. He’s extremely brave and settled in new places and open fields.

He has been competing locally with us and loves it. His steady, comfy canter and adjustable stride is ideal for a nervous rider on course.

He has been dressage schooling and travels easily in the contact in a loose ring snaffle. He is not lazy or overly forward, he stays right under the leg, even with a petite 5’ girl.

With his floaty, suspended movement and blue roan colour, we think he’d make a fabulous horse for showing hunter classes or dressage competitions

He has been cross country schooling and enjoys it very much. We believe he’d make a great hunt horse with his mellow personality and great attitude for water, ditches, coffins, etc.

He is very easy to catch, load, tie, plait, bathe, shoe, etc. He is notoriously friendly and gentle, our girls adore his willing and sweet personality. He gets along well with all other horses and has no vices.

He is open to any vetting

Price includes delivery to UK, exchange if you are not happy

Amazing opportunity! Competed medium BD scoring over 71%. 2nd LIHS in Heavyweight Showing Final, Champion at many Shows!

  • Owned since a foal, never thought id sell as hes a very special horse! Absolute gentleman!

Where do I start! I purchased Hercules as a foal from Ireland. As a 3 year old I showed him in hand a a few local venues taking Champion a few times. Feb 2023 he was backed, April 2023 his under saddle competition career started.

So when he was 4 years old he was:
* Nottinghamshire County Show Champion and qualified for LIHS
* Stars Champion of Champions Hunter Champion
*LIHS Middleweight/Heavyweight Hunter Championship 9th with a friend riding him
*won numerous championships showing at various venues

5 years of age
*LIHS Middleweight/Heavyweight Hunter Championship 2nd with me riding him
*Competed Novice and Ele British Dressage scoring up to 75.4%
*British Dressage Associate Draught Championships, Novice & Elementary Champion
* won numerous championships showing at various venues

6 years of age:
*Competed in x3 Medium British dressage scoring between 69-72%
*Qualified for Associate British Dressage Draught Championships at Ele and Medium level (didn’t go to Championships as I the rider had surgery)
*Qualified LIHS Middleweight/Heavyweight Hunter Championship (didn’t go to Championships as I had surgery)

When Hercules was 4 years of age my friends 5 year old daughter rode him in the arena, walk, trotting, circles, he was in an outline it was VERY special to watch. He is genuinely the safest horse to ride there is! Hercules is very trainable and takes everything in his stride, his lateral work, half passes he gets 7.5’s for, his extended trot he can now get a 7 for and every score sheet there's plenty of 7.5 even the odd 8!

He's done numerous fun rides, gallops, beach rides, proving safe and sensible, never getting strong or silly. He's jumped logs and small xc jumps but nothing big. I've not jumped him at home other than the odd cross pole as its not my thing!
I said that id never sell Hercules as he's the most special horse I've ever owned, however I'm 51 and my body is struggling. I've had more down time than ridable time for the past 10 months from surgeries and I've decided to sell both horses as my body unfortunately isn’t coping!

Last March Hercules started to make a noise so July last year he had a successful tie back operation which now means he makes NO noise when ridden and is now able to go out and win any showing class. He also has more energy for the dressage so it was a wise decision made last year.

Hercules has the most adorable temperament and is easy in every way! The only thing he doesn’t like is tractors, wagons and water! I don’t hack him from home as our road is 60mph and he isn’t great with big vehicles but I have trailered him to other locations and hacked him where the roads are quieter and he's fine. On fun rides he doesn’t like to get his feet wet!

Hercules has no vices, blemishes, he has clean legs, no lumps or bumps, good feet and a beautiful brain! I'm very particular who buys Hercules as I love this horse.

Outstanding Chestnut Blagdon Cob Mare For Sale “Lady” AKA Lady in Red

Beautiful homebred 3-year-old mare standing approx 15hh and currently still rump high, so expected to mature bigger.

Lady is truly not your everyday cob. She has all the qualities to make a serious future prospect and has been bred to stand out.
This is an incredibly difficult decision as I originally bred Lady to keep for myself, however with the girls’ riding now taking priority, unfortunately I just don’t have the time she deserves.

Homebred from my stunning Greateaves mare, who I still own
Full sister also retained
Well handled since birth

I have a selection of very exciting young horses that I am currently working with.

Finn: Skewbald cob x American paint horse gelding, 4 years old, to make 15hh

Ranger: chestnut Irish cob gelding, 3 years old, to make 15.2hh

Champ: black blagdon traditional cob gelding, 3 years old, to make 15hh

Khaleesi: palomino cob x Irish Draught mare, 4 years old, to make 15.2hh

Pippa: piebald traditional cob mare, 4 years old, to make 14.1hh

Chilli: piebald lighter weight cob gelding, 3 years old, to make 14.3hh

All of them are in the process of being professionally started, ridden away and produced by myself and all are at different stages. I will gladly take them through the whole journey, however if their perfect partner found us before this point I would be open to letting them go once they are confidently riding away in walk trot and canter. And their price would reflect the stage that they are at, but sorry they won’t be ‘project’ or ‘trade’ money, I will be looking for around £10,000 at this point. Once they are fully produced and are out competing and seeing the world I will be advertising them at around £15,000.

All of them have passports and microchips, are fully vaccinated, up to date with teeth, physio and farrier (all are currently barefoot)
All of them are good to do in all ways and very well mannered.

I will be looking for experienced homes to continue their education and help them grow into the fabulous riding horses that I know that they are all going to be, so no novices please. I am never in a rush to sell and I will gladly take all of them right through to being fully produced and out competing and seeing the world, which is what I have always done for many years. So this is an opportunity that I have never offered before. I do appreciate that the cost of fully produced riding horses is high and not everyone has a budget that will reach this, so as I’ve said above I would be open to letting them go before they are fully produced if their perfect partner and forever home found us.

If you feel like any of them might be what you are searching for and want to know a bit more about them, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss whether they could be a potential match for you and to register interest to be on a wait list for them and I will gladly keep you updated with their progress.

No novices, no dealers, no riding schools, no loans, no payment plans.
Experienced forever homes only please, homes will be vetted, they are all very special horses who deserve the very best.

Finn has been professionally started and is currently being ridden away and then I will be producing him and getting him out competing, however if his perfect partner found us once he’s ridden away and before I have fully produced him I would consider selling him and price would reflect the stage that he was at at the time.

I did all the groundwork with him at end of summer/autumn last year as a 3 year old and sat on him a few times and then turned him away to mature over the winter.
I restarted him spring this year and he is now riding away currently in walk and trot.

Finn has very much enjoyed starting his education, he is a pleasure to work with. He is a very exciting young horse with so much potential to be a fantastic all rounder.

Bags of 'look at me' presence and personality.

Welsh parents and a Clydesdale Grandparent. Breeding sadly not recorded but traceable.

Kerys came to A.E Equestrian last year to be lightly backed and then turned away to mature. She didn't take many weeks to get hacking out well.

About weeks ago when Keyrs came back we had a very honest discussion with her owner that whilst Keyrs was progressing well with being restarted she is a very young, green active horse who will take a good year to really settle to ridden life as she would like her, therefore she part exchanged her for another horse, more suitable to her lifestyle and riding confidence.

We think she is fab, she has all the bravado of a Welsh, is a powerful, active and attractive model and is proving trainable.

We believe she will be a fabulous all-rounder in time and excel in all RC areas, maybe working hunter will be her bag!

She needs a competent, knowledgeable home who understand the breed, and can competently educate just backed horses.

She is hacking well and has had a walk, trot and canter in the arena. Last week she did a couple of rears but rode on through this, she is a young horse with a big heart and even bigger personality so needs arson to match this.

Genuine enquiries please. She will carry to her education and hopefully join a fun ride or two in Autumn.

Subulter Fern - Stunning dapple grey mare,16.2hh, 6years, weight carrier. Safe and Steady Draught / Irish Cob

Happy Hacker, Weight Carrier, Ride and Drive, Low Maintenance

Fern is an ultimate confidence giver, exceptional 16.2hh chunky mare with a leg in each corner, this rare combination of safety, strength, experience, and a heart of gold. She is kind, bold, dependable weight carrier, ideal for a wide range of riders from competent noice to more experienced jockeys who prefer a calm sensible mount with an engine.

Fern is beautifully put together and has been there and done it in every sense. A calm, considerate and willing mare, she is a perfect mount for riders who want to enjoy their riding at a relaxed pace without compromising on ability and responsiveness. She has a 5th gear to die for when asked, she will love jumping both coloured and rustic fences, she is bold, athletic and careful she would compete in showjumping, cross country, working hunter, hunting, the great thing about Fern is that she has the ability to excel in any discipline while remaining calm and unfazed, she is being completely wasted in a riding school as she has so much potential.

she has been driven prior to us getting her both Single, Pair: harnessed side-by-side to a carriage and team in agricultural, draught, two heavy horses working together.

Fern is currently working 4 days a week in a professional riding school environment, she has excelled with every level of rider from competent novices to advanced, group and private lessons, both under saddle and during stable management sessions.

She would be ideal for hunting. She will stand and wait calmly within large crowds and open spaces and remains completely unfazed by loud noises or horses running around her. She does not fizz up, spook or spin.

Fern loves to hack out and does so safely and calmly. She will happily hack alone or in company and has been exposed to the heaviest, fastest-moving traffic imaginable. She is completely unphased by buses, lorries, farm machinery and all types of vehicles. She remains safe and steady in all environments and does not rush or pull, even in open spaces or on the way home.

Although she is happy to go at a quiet, steady pace, she is also responsive to the leg and has three balanced, steady paces. For more experienced riders, she will work with enthusiasm and energy, always staying calm and sensible.

Fern has outstanding ground manners. She stands for hours to be groomed and fussed over, with or without a headcollar or lead rope. She is never marish or clingy, and she’s happy living in or out. In the field, she keeps herself to herself and never causes trouble, whether stabled alone or turned out in a mixed herd.

Fern has a history of excellent health and has never had laminitis, sweet itch, sarcoids, or any lumps, bumps, or unsoundness. She is currently barefoot with strong, healthy hooves and is equally happy to be shod. She is excellent to catch, great to load and travel, good with the farrier, vet, and dentist.

She is incredibly low maintenance, requiring no daily work. She can have weeks off and return to ridden work without any fuss. She maintains her condition year-round on a simple diet and is easy to manage in every way.

She passes our annual Licence Inspection, which is the equivalent of a Stage 2 vetting.

Fern is a rare gem. She is the perfect choice for someone looking for a calm, dependable, and capable all-rounder. Whether you are a novice rider, someone looking for a safe happy hacker, or a family looking for a versatile and loving horse, Fern fits the bill perfectly. She is a genuine schoolmistress who provides confidence and enjoyment in every ride and will give her next owner years of pleasure.

This is a heartbreaking sale. As part of our regular stock rotation, we give our riding school horses the opportunity to move on to private homes every few years so they can enjoy one-on-one attention and new experiences. Fern is ready to bring joy to her next rider and deserves the very best home. Sold on behalf of a working livery.

We rotate our stock and we are currently reducing our numbers so we have a few other horses and ponies available for sale.

Louis is a super fun quality cob.

He has a very can do attitude to life and being ridden.

He has hunted once which he thoroughly enjoyed and looked the part at! He has been XC schooling, done a little unaff shows and a farm ride.

Louis came to us at A.E Equestrian early this year after his owner didn't feel quite suited to him, he had grown up in a big riding club environment and was considered a novice confidence giver but really he is more active than this. We then sold him to a family with a keen grand-daughter and family but he forgot his ground manners in this small environment and has come back!

All the above really detracts from the fantastic Welsh X cob he is. He hacks well, is great with traffic, pops small fences and might go and pop around local un-aff SJ next week time allowing. He just hasn't found the right people/ set up unfortunately. He really is a true RC/ PC all-rounder go getter! Would be fab for clinics, camps.

On the ground he is super with us. He banged the door on day one and is a bit of an attention seeker, especially if you over treat him, but otherwise he is hard to fault; clipping, shoeing, bathing etc all great. Lives in or out. Doesn't need riding daily etc. Hacks well alone, will ride and lead and regularly nannies young horses.

His flatwork could do with some supplying up but he is very willing and has not really had consistency of late.

Not wasted a present but too good to not be used! We will carry on over the supper and hopefully do a bit of eventing by the end of summer if not sold.

These types are so hard to find.

Too forward for a novice and has quite a Welsh way of going. Would really suit someone wanting to get out and ride and have fun.

GOLDIE

Beautiful cob mare

Goldie is an outstanding allrounder mare who would turn a hoof to anything. Heaps of working hunter/showing potential. Great movement on the flat, and a bold scopey jump.

Very easy ride, snaffle mouthed at all times. Great in open spaces. Lovely and easy to ride round a course and great out XC.

Goldie has hunted, beach rides, hunter trails, dressage shows.

Great to hack out alone or in company, not phased by any traffic. Happy to go first or last.

Incredible to handle, clip, shoe, load, bath ect. Far from marish.

She is a true family horse, suited to anyone and everyone. Very easy to do in all ways, she just always wants to please.

A truly lovely mare inside and out who certainly has a bright future ahead.

5* home required for this special horse, the certainly don’t come around often like her!
