Bobby is a genuine, straightforward 5-year-old who has been thoughtfully and sympathetically produced, allowing him time to mature and develop confidence at his own pace. He’s not been rushed or over-faced, and as a result, he’s willing, consistent, and eager to please.
Bought as a 3 year old, Bobby did a lot of groundwork and in-hand shows. Professionally backed as a 4 year old, then schooled as a 5 year old, Bobby has been given a great foundation with a balance of ridden work, downtime, and varied experiences. He is the same horse after 6 weeks off as he is when ridden regularly. You can more or less pick up where you left off with Bobby. Equally, he coped well with daily riding when he went for schooling maintaining his good nature and willingness with a heavier workload.
He has expressive paces and a naturally big jump — he’s comfortably loose-schooled up to 1.10m, without ever being chased or pressured. His jumping has been developed with positive reinforcement, and he loves his job: point him at a fence and he’ll tackle it happily, then quietly stand while you reset poles. At his first indoor jumping show he calmly walked into the arena on the buckle, jumped clear, and came home with a red rosette.
Bobby hacks out alone and in company and is very solid in traffic for his age. He has attended a small number of in-hand shows, riding clinics, and fun rides, taking it all in his stride and growing his confidence with every outing. He lives in a mixed herd by a main road and is easy to handle in all ways — excellent to catch, load, clip, bath, travel, lunge, etc. Great ground manners, good with the farrier, dentist and vet. Bobby is currently barefoot and rides in a snaffle. His teeth, wormer, vaccinations are up to date and he’s even had a willy and sheath wash! Bobby has a lot of character and will play tag in the arena, if you initiate it; nuzzle you, and do carrot stretches for ages. He can be quite the timewaster!
Bobby would excel as a riding club all-rounder, a mother-daughter share, or a happy hacker. He’s had a great foundation and is ready to move onto the next stage of his life.
