Dave is a 12hh 13 year old gelding who is fully liberty trained with tricks and reliable bridle-less riding. He has done pony club activities, which he enjoys.
Showjumping he will jump 80/90cm training with a keen jockey, and will step down to jump cross poles with a less experienced rider. He doesn’t spook at fillers/ water trays and gets on with his job.
He has done a mini one day event, dressage isn’t his forte BUT he will happily do a basic walk/trot/canter test without any issues.
Has done plenty of XC schooling which he also enjoys.
Dave hacks out regularly across May Hill, he keeps his rider safe on busy roads and open hills, even not bothered by the ‘wild’ horses that often canter past us when we hack. He’s lead the hack down a busy road and not batted an eyelid at huge Lorrie’s passing at speed! I don’t think I’ve ever met such a bombproof pony on the road.
Dave has regularly been ridden without a bridle and he will also jump bridle-less. He knows stop and rein back off your seat and a neck rope.
Dave has an extensive list of liberty tricks, including but not limited to;
-lay down
-side pass away and towards
-back up in front and behind
-follow on
He is just a fabulous little pony who deserves a new jockey that loves him just as much as we do. He’s handled by his 11 year old rider. Easy to catch, loads well, is a loving little pony, enjoys a treat but doesn’t get nippy if given them.
When in a new home Dave will take a couple of weeks to settle, he’s not nasty, just a little stressy and therefore an adult is to be on hand to handle him if needed in the initial settling in period. Once settled he is absolutely fine to be handled by a child. He lives in or out, prefers not to be left in alone, but is fine to be let out alone in his field.
Upto date with vaccines, farrier (barefoot) and dentist. Never needed to see the vet for anything other than vaccinations.
It would be wonderful if he could find a home with someone interested in liberty, and this is where my preference would be when selecting a home for him. However a down to earth horsey family, who enjoy doing a bit of every thing with their ponies would be fantastic
